UCLA SNF Center Welcomes Eleni Hioureas to Community Advisory Board

LOS ANGELES, CA –

The UCLA Stavros Niarchos Foundation Center for the Study of Hellenic Culture welcomed Professor Eleni Hioureas to its Community Advisory Board, the Center announced on September 8.

Eleni Hioureas is an English literature and composition professor at Santa Monica College with over 25 years of experience in education. She served as the English Department Chair and Assistant Chair for a combined total of nine years and teaches courses in Greek and Roman mythology, composition, research, critical thinking, reading comprehension, and literary analysis. She also develops programs and curriculum to support educationally underserved students. In addition, she has worked to promote global competency in education and has led a study abroad program to Greece in which she taught ancient and modern Greek literature. She served as a Mellon-EPIC Faculty Fellow through the UCLA Humanities Division’s Excellence Pedagogy and Innovative Classrooms (EPIC) Program Seminars in Teaching Excellence and is also a Salzburg Global Fellow. Hioureas has a Master’s degree in Modern Literature from the University of York in England and a Bachelor’s degree in American Literature from UCLA with minors in Political Science and Classics.

Her involvement with the Greek-American community includes being a former board member of the American Hellenic Council and SAE USA (World Council of Hellenes Abroad). She has also taught Greek folk dancing at UCLA’s John Wooden Center.
