DOP Donates $10K to Meals on Wheels America to Support Senior Nutrition and Wellness Contribution

WASHINGTON, DC – GNUSA

Continuing their nearly decade-long tradition of supporting the organization, the Daughters of Penelope (DOP) presented a $10,000 check to Meals on Wheels America on September 20.

Grand President Antoinette Marousis Zachariades -joined by the 2025–2026 Grand Lodge and Executive Director Elena Saviolakis – delivered the donation to Meals on Wheels America’s Chief Development and Marketing Officer Kristine Templin during the 2025 District Governors Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C.

“We are proud to support the worthy mission of Meals on Wheels America and its vision of an America in which all seniors live nourished lives with independence and dignity”, said Grand President Zachariades. “We presented our donation shortly after Malnutrition Awareness Week and during Fall Prevention Awareness Month, and hope we can assist, in a modest way, senior nutrition programs such as Meals on Wheels that play a critical role in combating senior hunger, malnutrition, falls, and isolation”.

Kristine Templin expressed her gratitude to the Daughters of Penelope “for their ongoing commitment to the issue of senior hunger and isolation and for this generous donation”.

“Our support of Meals on Wheels America dovetails with our community service programs that assist our nation’s older adults who are in need”, Zachariades added. “For example, Meals on Wheels serves many residents of AHEPA’s and the Daughters’ 88 affordable senior housing communities”.

Zachariades concluded by expressing appreciation to AHEPA Senior Living for their generous grant, which made the donation to Meals on Wheels America possible.

This marks the eighth consecutive $10,000 donation in as many years from the Daughters of Penelope to Meals on Wheels America, the leading national organization addressing senior hunger and isolation.
