PSEKA: Turkey Escalates Tension in the Republic of Cyprus

NEW YORK, NY –

“We are pushing Congress to pass a resolution condemning the deployment of F‑16 fighter jets in the occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus,” stated PSEKA President Philip Christopher, noting that Turkey’s actions violate international norms and further destabilize the region.

In a statement, the International Coordinating Committee “Justice for Cyprus” (PSEKA) stresses that the deployment constitutes a violation of International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), which restrict the use and transfer of U.S.-origin military equipment, and calls on President Trump to apply immediate diplomatic pressure on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, demanding the removal of all Turkish occupation forces from the island.

The full statement

“In violation of International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Turkey deployed F16 fighter jets in the occupied area of Cyprus.

The self-declared “Turkish Republic of Cyprus” (TRNC), an illegal puppet state, is only recognized by Turkey.  The international community, including the United States and the European Union, recognizes only the Republic of Cyprus.

We call on President Trump to immediately apply pressure on Dictator Erdogan to remove the Turkish occupation troops and allow all Cypriot refugees to return to their ancestral homes.

Fifty-two years of occupation of 36% of the Republic of Cyprus must come to an end.  The Republic of Cyprus, a strong strategic partner of America and deserves our support”,

Philip Christopher

President
