Malliotakis Statement on House Passage of Amendments to Crack Down on Cruel Animal Testing

WASHINGTON, DC—

Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis released the following statement following the House’s passage of H.R. 8646, Agriculture, Rural Development, FDA Appropriations Act of 2027, which included two of her amendments to crack down on cruel animal testing:

“I am pleased that two of my amendments to crack down on cruel animal testing were included in the Agriculture -FDA appropriations bill that passed the House floor today. These amendments would stop taxpayer dollars from being used to require testing on dogs through the FDA and prohibit USDA funding for painful research on dogs and cats.

We should be using modern, humane alternatives, including organs-on-chips, and other advanced testing methods that are often faster, more accurate, and more predictive of human outcomes than traditional dog testing—not forcing animals to suffer unnecessarily at taxpayers’ expense.

We’ve already had major victories for the voiceless as the Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense have cracked down on inhumane experiments and the Environmental Protection Agency this week announced its goal to end the practice. We will keep chipping away and building on our success until all animal testing is banned by the federal government”.
