Greek tourism recorded a positive performance, according to the statistical bulletin of the Institute of Greek Tourism Confederation (INSETE) Intelligence.
During the January-June 2026 period, Greece recorded 10.7 million international air arrivals, an increase of 396,000 or 3.8% compared with the corresponding period in 2025.
In June alone, international air arrivals reached 4.1 million, up by 80,000 or 2% compared with June 2025.
Between January and June 2026, Athens International Airport recorded 3.8 million international air arrivals, marginally lower by 0.04% compared with the same period in 2025. Thessaloniki Airport recorded 1.2 million arrivals, up 5.6%, while Heraklion recorded 1.5 million international arrivals, an increase of 7.1%. Arrivals in Chania reached 616,000, up 13.2%.
International air arrivals increased across all geographical regions during the January-June 2026 period. Crete recorded the highest number of international air arrivals, with 2.1 million arrivals, marking an 8.8% increase compared with 2025. It was followed by the Dodecanese islands with 1.6 million arrivals, up 1.7%; the Ionian Islands with 1.4 million arrivals, up 7.5%; the Cyclades with 350,000 arrivals, up 6.7%; and the Peloponnese with 83,000 arrivals, up 3.1%.
During the January-June 2026 period, domestic air arrivals reached 4.6 million, recording an increase of 5.2% compared with the same period in 2025.
In particular, domestic air arrivals in the first quarter of 2026 reached 1.8 million, up 7.5% compared with the corresponding period of 2025.
The second quarter started on a positive note, with 802,000 domestic air arrivals recorded in April, up 5.1%. In May, domestic arrivals reached 912,000, up 3.2%, while June recorded 1.1 million arrivals, also up 3.2%.
The highest number of domestic air arrivals was recorded in Athens, with 2.2 million arrivals, up 4.9%. Thessaloniki followed with 610,000 arrivals, also up 4.9%. Heraklion recorded 450,000 arrivals, up 1.1%, while Chania recorded 238,000 arrivals, up 7.3%.
