ATHENS –
At the top of a special list of recommendations for travelers wishing to discover a different, authentic and less predictable side of Greece is Andros, featured in an extensive article by the popular French travel website.
The list presents ten destinations across the Greek islands and mainland aimed at travelers seeking experiences beyond Greece’s most prominent, crowded and heavily promoted destinations.
The significance of this international recognition is enhanced by the fact that Liligo is one of the established digital platforms in the French travel market, specializing in searching and comparing travel options, while Magazine du Voyageur serves as a source of travel inspiration and information, offering millions of users destination ideas, travel-planning advice and updates on tourism trends.
In the feature, Andros is presented as the second-largest island in the Cyclades and as a destination that stands out from its neighboring islands thanks to its high-quality tourism services, lush landscapes, rugged valleys, historic and religious monuments, picturesque villages, more natural and less urbanized beaches, and numerous springs. Particular mention is made of Panachrantos Monastery, one of the most important religious attractions visitors encounter within the island’s natural and cultural landscape, as well as more broadly across the Cyclades and Greece.
A central element of the presentation is Andros’ hiking tourism. Liligo highlights the island’s network of marked trails, totaling more than 100 kilometers, essentially inviting travelers to “put aside their flip-flops and sandals and put on their hiking shoes” in order to discover the island’s hidden treasures. In this way, Andros is promoted not simply as another Cycladic destination for sun and sea, but as a place for exploration, contact with nature and active holidays, with a tourism offering capable of attracting visitors throughout a longer tourism season.
The feature is linked to the broader promotional campaign of the Municipality of Andros and the Greek National Tourism Organization (EOT). It also refers to the island’s accessibility, noting that visitors can fly to Athens and then travel to Rafina, from where Andros is connected by ferry in approximately two hours. It also points out the possibility of reaching the island from Mykonos.
This reference is particularly important for the French market, as it connects Andros with two major “gateways” for international travelers and strengthens the island’s image as a destination that can easily be incorporated into a broader Cycladic travel itinerary.
“The fact that Andros has been ranked first in a list of Greek destinations off the beaten track for French travellers is particularly important exposure and, at the same time, a confirmation of the potential of the destination” said Nikos Moustakas, the Municipality of Andros’ Councillor for Tourism.Andros offers an exceptionally rich and diverse tourism experience. Its unique natural environment, extensive network of walking trails, villages, architecture, history, culture, beaches, good food, quality entertainment, very good services at reasonable prices and the island’s authenticity combine to create a range of experiences that can appeal to different markets and travellers with a wide variety of interests” he added.
