His Eminence Archbishop Apostolos of Canada has announced the appointment of the Rev. Fr. Evangelos Anastasiadis as Director of Ministries and Development of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada, effective October 16, 2026.
According to a press release by the Archdiocese, this assignment reflects its continuing commitment to the cultivation of a dynamic and coordinated pastoral ministry, firmly rooted in the Orthodox ecclesiastical tradition and attentive to the contemporary needs of the faithful.
In his new capacity, Fr. Evangelos will work in close collaboration with His Eminence the Archbishop in the coordination and advancement of the ministries and programs of the Archdiocese. His responsibilities will include the development of new pastoral initiatives, the strengthening of existing ministries, and the promotion of programs that foster the spiritual, educational, and institutional life of the Church throughout Canada.
Particular attention will be devoted to the Patriarchal Orthodox Theological Academy, whose sacred mission of theological education and priestly formation remains fundamental to the life and future of the Archdiocese and the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Fr. Evangelos will assist in the development of initiatives designed to strengthen the Academy’s academic and ecclesiastical character and to advance its institutional mission.
Commenting on the appointment, His Eminence Archbishop Apostolos said that the ministry of the Church is “never merely administrative” but remains fundamentally ecclesial, pastoral, and missionary.
Citing the words of the Apostle Paul, “There are diversities of ministries, but the same Lord” (1 Corinthians 12:5), the Archbishop noted that every ministry of the Archdiocese must serve the same sacred purpose: the building up of the Body of Christ and the spiritual cultivation of the people entrusted to its pastoral care.
“I am grateful to Fr. Evangelos for accepting this important responsibility and for offering his priestly experience, dedication, and abilities to the service of our Archdiocese,” he said. “I look forward to working closely with him in strengthening our ministries, developing new pastoral initiatives, and cultivating a spirit of responsible stewardship, ecclesiastical excellence, and service”.
Referring to the Patriarchal Orthodox Theological Academy, the Archbishop noted that the institution occupies a particularly important place within the Archdiocese’s vision for the future.
“The theological and spiritual formation of future clergy is not simply an institutional responsibility; it is an investment in the future of the Church. We shall therefore continue to strengthen the Academy so that it may faithfully fulfill its sacred vocation in service to the Church in Canada and to our Mother Church, the Ecumenical Patriarchate”, Archbishop Apostolos concluded.
