NEW YORK, NY –
As it celebrates its 90th Anniversary, the Hellenic Medical Society (HMS) proudly unveils the inaugural Hippocratic Medical Symposium—a landmark gathering where leading minds in medicine will convene to shape the future of cardiovascular care.
Taking place at 150 W 17th Street in New York City, on April 19, 8am – 8 pm, the symposium launches under the 2026 theme: “Heart & Vascular Innovation: Emerging Science, Technologies and Future Therapies”.
The event brings together physicians, scientists, and innovators at the forefront of cardiovascular medicine, honoring a legacy that spans from Hippocrates to pioneers such as Dr. George Papanicolaou, inventor of the Pap test, and Dr. Mary Kalopothakes, the first female physician in modern Greece.

The 2026 HMS Honorees represent exceptional leadership and impact: Eugenia Gianos, MD, is recognized with the Dr. George Papanicolaou Award; Roxana Mehran, MD, will receive the Dr. Mary Kalopothakes Award; and Nicos Labropoulos, PhD, the Hippocrates Award.
For the first time, HMS will present all of its distinguished awards in a single ceremony, honoring nine decades of impact while inspiring the next generation of physicians and healers.
Beyond medicine, the Symposium will highlight the intersection of science and art. Renowned artist Costas Picadas will present his Phytobiosomes series, transforming the space into a dialogue between biology, healing, and visual expression, alongside a special book signing.
The peer-reviewed Abstract Sessions will showcase top-selected research from emerging leaders, advancing the next wave of breakthroughs in medicine.
A Hippocratic Oath Ceremony will honor the ethical foundations of the profession, joined by a visiting delegation from the Global Doctors Hippocratic Institute, underscoring the Symposium’s international scope and commitment to Hippocratic ideals.
This landmark event is made possible through the generous support of its sponsors: Platinum: Bank of America Silver: AMGEN, Medtronic, Tactile Medical, Sonovein by Theraclion Bronze: Boston Scientific, Lilly, Sun-Scientific, Northwell Vein Care, Lenox Hill, Kestra.
“The Hippocratic Medical Symposium represents a defining moment for HMS”, said Dr. Antonios Gasparis, President of HMS. “As we celebrate 90 years of advancing medicine, community, and service, we are building a platform for innovation, collaboration, and the breakthroughs that will define the next century of care”.
