Greek actor Apostolis Totsikas spoke with Markos Papadatos about his new Hallmark movie “The Greek Aisle,” which will premiere on Saturday, June 6th. It will be available to stream on Hallmark+ on the following day.
The synopsis is: When Georgia (Nikki DeLoach) travels to the Greek island of Corfu to finalize an inheritance, she unexpectedly discovers that marrying her handsome co-inheritor (played by Apostolis Totsikas) is the only way to meet the requirements. It was filmed on location in the island of Corfu.
On being a part of “The Greek Aisle,” he exclaimed, “This experience was the best. It was simply amazing. I like the fact that my character is very clean and pure. He is very sensible, and very much in love with life.”
Totsikas had great words about working with his leading lady Nikki DeLoach. On working with Nikki DeLoach as his leading lady Georgia, he remarked, “It was amazing. We had so much fun on set and off set. Nikki is such a pro. We all became like a family with the cast and the crew. I felt I was so protected under Hallmark’s wing.”
“It was a very fun ride, and simply incredible,” he added.
For Totsikas, he noted that the Greek island of Corfu felt like its “own character in the movie” and added that it was much more than just a backdrop. “Even though the natural lights are very difficult to tame, Corfu is a very strong place to shoot, and the cinematographers did a great job with that,” he said.
On the lessons learned from the screenplay of this rom-com, Totsikas reflected, “The screenplay is very close to me, and the same holds true for the character. It is all about honesty and being true to what you are doing and not faking things.”
“Loyalty and connections are very important to me. So, I really enjoyed this film project,” he added.
On his Greek heritage, he shared, “I was born in Athens, Greece, and then I moved to Volos, where I went to school. Actually, I am from Larissa, which is very close to Volos. Then, I went back to Athens where I did my studies in acting at the Drama School of the National Theatre of Greece, and here I am, 23 years later.”
“In general, I love the hospitality in Greece. It is amazing and such a beautiful place. We filmed the Hallmark movie in Corfu, where ironically enough, my wife is from that island. It was an incredible experience, and the people embraced us when we were shooting there,” he elaborated.
Apostolis is the son of the late veteran Greek actor Yannis Totsikas, who was known for his many roles in film, television, and theatre.
Totsikas shared his thoughts on the Greek Diaspora, which refers to the dispersion of the Greek population from the motherland of Greece to multiple regions across the world.
“I’ve been to LA once, where I met a lot of famous guys there. As Greeks, we like to travel and we also struggle as any other kind of people, yet we always come back to Greece. “It’s the light that is actually very strong and it gets in your soul,” he said.
“It’s amazing what the Greeks are doing out there, especially being outside of the mother country. It’s incredible to adapt to different languages and different cultures; it’s all about respect,” he elaborated.
“My best man at my wedding was Dimitris Giannetos, who is a very famous make-up artist and he is everywhere. I had the blessing of him being my best man and he showed me around Los Angeles. It was an amazing period in my life,” he admitted.
For his fans and supporters, Totsikas expressed, “I love them for the support, and I love their positive vibes that they keep sending me. I’m always here trying to do my best because I love what I am doing.”
“It’s a necessity for me to act, and I love all my fans for their constant love and support. When somebody tells you that they love your work, it’s the greatest feeling in the world. The fans are really amazing, and they keep me going,” he acknowledged.
Totsikas remarked about the new Hallmark film, “This movie is about love being the highest power. Love is the greatest superhero power there is… it’s the most amazing power in the world.”
