On February 7, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros welcomed Deputy Minister of Social Welfare of Cyprus Ms. Marilena Evangelou at the Archdiocese headquarters in Manhattan.
At the conclusion of their meeting, Ms. Evangelou remarked, “Today, with great joy, we had a meeting with His Eminence the Archbishop of America. We discussed issues related to our diaspora as well as the developments in Cyprus. It was a great honor and joy to meet you, Your Eminence. And I really want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to meet and discuss with you. I look forward to meeting you in Cyprus.”
Responding to Ms. Evangelou, Archbishop Elpidophoros said, “I also thank you and welcome you because not only have I met the Minister of Social Welfare of this beautiful island of Cyprus but I have met an extraordinary person. I will be visiting Cyprus this summer to attend the AHEPA convention. It will be my third time to the beautiful island, where unfortunately we will be in the shadow of the dark anniversary.”
As the Archbishop has declared “As we approach the 50th year since the Turkish invasion, our resolve to end the occupation and bring justice to Cyprus remains unwavering.”
