The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and the Foundation of the Hellenic World (FHW) have signed a memorandum of understanding to promote and showcase Greek history, culture and the Orthodox Christian heritage.
According to the state-run Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA), the partnership will promote cultural and educational initiatives by leveraging the extensive expertise and technological advancements of the Foundation of the Hellenic World and its Hellenic Cosmos Cultural Center, using its advanced digital capabilities to disseminate historical information.
Through joint exhibitions, initiatives, virtual museum tours and educational programs, the two institutions seek to connect Greek Orthodox communities in America with the broader American public.
One of the cornerstones of the initiative is the presentation of the FHW’s digital productions in the United States.
These include an interactive, in-depth virtual tour of Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, the product of years of research by dozens of specialized scholars that reconstructs the interior of the cathedral, while also presenting various construction phases and significant historical, social and economic aspects of the Byzantine era.
Other productions that are expected to make their way across the Atlantic include the Hellenic Cosmos’ interactive tours of the Acropolis during the Age of Pericles, Ancient Olympia, the Ancient Agora of Athens, Ancient Miletus and more.
The memorandum was signed by Archbishop Elpidophoros of America and FHW Executive Vice President Sophia Kounenaki-Efraimoglou.
