ATHENS – The region of Attica was declared Europe’s Leading Sustainable Tourism Destination 2022 at the largest institution of the tourism industry, The World Travel Awards. Attica’s opponents were Baden-Württemberg, Dubrovnik, Edinburgh, Funchal, Pembrokeshire and Algarve.
It is an award that promotes the comparative advantages of a place that make it attractive all year round and in parallel follows the principles of sustainability.
Attica’s candidacy was based on its cultural wealth and its natural beauty, the modern infrastructure and on the comprehensive plan implemented by the region in order to turn Attica into the first “Green” region.
Regional Governor Giorgos Patoulis stated “Attica’s consecutive distinctions at the World Travel Awards show that the methodical work carried out at the region is bearing fruit”.
