His Eminence Archbishop Apostolos of Canada has announced the appointment of His Grace Bishop Athenagoras of Patara as Spiritual Advisor to the National Philoptochos of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada.
According to the Archdiocese, in this new capacity, His Grace will provide spiritual guidance and pastoral support to the National Philoptochos of Canada, working closely with its President, Board of Directors, and members to further strengthen and develop its philanthropic and ecclesiastical ministry throughout Canada.
His Grace Bishop Athenagoras of Patara has served as an Auxiliary Bishop of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada since 2020. In addition to his episcopal ministry, he serves as Dean of the Patriarchal Toronto Orthodox Theological Academy, contributing to the theological education and spiritual formation of the future clergy of the Church.
“Philoptochos is a living expression of the love and philanthropic ministry of our Church,” Archbishop Apostolos stated.
He thanked His Grace Bishop Athenagoras of Patara for accepting this new responsibility and expressed confidence that his pastoral experience would contribute greatly to the spiritual strengthening of the National Philoptochos of Canada.
“May God bless and strengthen the ministry of all its members”, he added.
Archbishop Apostolos also wished His Grace Bishop Athenagoras every blessing and strength in his new ministry and expressed his paternal gratitude to the President, Board of Directors, and all members of the National Philoptochos of Canada for their dedicated service to the Church and to those in need.
