During his visit to Chicago, National Defence Minister Nikos Dendias participated in the award ceremony for the former CEO of the American Jewish Committee (AJC) David Harris, which took place at the “National Hellenic Museum.”

Dendias referred to Harris’s contribution to combatting anti-Semitism and building relations between the Greek and Jewish communities in the United States.

“The contribution of both HALC (Hellenic American Leadership Council) and the American Jewish Committee to promoting these relations is of the utmost importance. Their shared vision and efforts have created a strong coalition that addresses regional challenges, while promoting stability and defending democratic values. This relationship also served as a springboard – and continues to do so – for close cooperation between Greece, Israel and the Republic of Cyprus,” he said.

The Minister of Defence underlined Greece’s excellent relations with Israel, the Arab world and the United States. “We are a maritime nation that reaches out to other civilisations and builds bridges of peaceful coexistence,” Dendias said, and added that “Greece’s strategic cooperation with the US is at a high level.”

Dendias stressed Greece’s role as a “true ally of the United States” and as a “pillar of stability and security in the Eastern Mediterranean.”

The Minister of Defence also referred to Greece’s actions for regional stability, emphasising that its relationship with Israel is of great importance.
