Greek PM Mitsotakis to visit US

ATHENS –

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will begin his visit to the United States in San Francisco on Monday, September 21, ahead of his participation in the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York. He will meet with technology companies and members of the Greek community active in Silicon Valley.

Investment will be a key focus of the Greek premier’s programme in New York on September 23-25. Specifically, Kyriakos Mitsotakis will participate in a roundtable with more than 30 institutional investors with exposure to Greece and major Greek companies. According to sources, he will also meet with the heads and senior executives of major international financial institutions, with international developments in energy, defence, technology and services among the main issues on the agenda.

Government sources also said that the prime minister will have the opportunity to highlight the substantial progress made by the Greek economy, the government’s commitment to fiscal stability and the further promotion of reforms, which have already resulted in a continued increase in investment as a percentage of GDP and record levels of foreign direct investment (FDI).

He is also expected to stress that Greece is a safe and welcoming country for international companies to establish their regional operations, with a particularly favourable tax regime for company executives.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis will be in San Francisco on Monday, September 21, and Tuesday, September 22. He will hold meetings with technology companies and members of the Greek community active in Silicon Valley. On September 22, he will visit Stanford University, where he will speak at a closed event hosted by the Hoover Institution, with the participation of former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

The Greek premier will then travel to New York. He will address the UN General Assembly on Thursday afternoon, September 24, local time. Earlier that day, he will meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres at UN headquarters.

On the same day, he will participate in an event on artificial intelligence at Columbia University.

On Wednesday morning, September 23, the prime minister will participate in the launch event of the OceanEye International Alliance, co-chaired by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. The European OceanEye initiative is an EU plan to improve ocean and sea monitoring by combining satellites and digital models, with the aim of providing better environmental and climate data and developing European technology.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis will also address a luncheon organised jointly by 28 Greek-American organisations, including AHEPA, HALC, PSEKA, AHI, HANC and HACC. Prominent members of the Greek diaspora – Michail Amiridis, Dina Titus, John Koudounis, George Dangas, Athina Krommyda and Patrick Theros – will be honoured at the event.

As part of his participation in the UN General Assembly High-level Week, Mitsotakis will hold meetings with leaders, major international media organisations and representatives of major American Jewish organisations on Wednesday, September 23.

On Friday morning, September 25, he will give a live interview on Bloomberg television.
