Green light for the construction of new Athens Intercity Bus Station

ATHENS – A green light to begin the construction of the new Central Station for Intercity Buses in the Elaionas district of Athens has been given by the Ministry of Environment and Energy Ministry, which has approved the environmental terms of this major public transport project.

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport will oversee the construction of the new bus station that will replace the existing stations on Kifissos Avenue and Liosion. The cost of the project is estimated at 100 million euros.

Located next to the Elaionas metro station and several bus stops, it will serve as a major public transport hub for traffic into and out of Athens. In addition to inter-city buses, it will also serve international bus travel.

The new bus station will consist of four buildings, including a conference centre, a hotel, security checkpoints for terminals similar to those in airports, 70 places for inter-city buses, shops and services. It is expected to serve more than 40,000 passengers a day or up to 15 million passengers a year.

It will also offer parking facilities, taxi ranks, metro services, and bus services.
