Hellenic Film Society Presents GUEST STAR, Dec. 8 at MoMI in Astoria

HFS

ASTORIA, NY – Greek News USA

The Hellenic Film Society (HFS) will present Guest Star, which had its New York premiere at the Society’s recent New York Greek Film Expo, a film festival for all New Yorkers, in October.

The screening, on December 8 at 3pm at the prestigious Museum of the Moving Image, is part of HFS’s Always on Sunday monthly Greek film series.

The film, written, directed and starring Vasilis Christofilakis, is a satirical dark comedy about the hapless son of famous actors who is given a chance to earn his own place in the public eye by hosting a late-night TV talk show. Things get complicated when a fake love affair with an eccentric singer is set up to enhance his public image. The film is in Greek with English subtitles.

“I don’t know how to label the film,” Christofilakis says. “Some people laugh at the end; others cry. Some find it heavy; others, light. What I want is for the audience to appreciate the emotional sensitivity of the characters.”

For further information or to purchase tickets, you should visit www.hellenicfilmusa.org. A trailer for the film can be seen through the HFS website. The Museum of the Moving Image, 36-01 35th Avenue in Astoria, is conveniently located near public transportation.
