ATHENS – New pandemic restrictions for international travelers arriving in Greece came into force at 6:00 on Sunday and they will last until January 10.
In order to enter the country, travelers need to have a certificate that they have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2, with either a PCR test taken in the previous 72 hours or a ‘rapid’ lateral flow test taken in the previous 24 hours.
It is the responsibility of airlines, shipping lines, rail lines and road transport firms to check that passengers have the necessary documents before boarding.
According to the relevant Joint Ministerial Directive, travelers who test positive for Covid-19 will have to self-isolate, either at home or at a suitable place of temporary accommodation indicated by Greek authorities, for a period of 10 days.
If they have fully completed vaccination against Covid-19 at least 14 days prior to arrival, the period of temporary quarantine is reduced to seven days.
Due to the new Omicron variant, there is a temporary reduction of shipping connections to Turkey and a reduction in the maximum number of passengers allowed on ships sailing to Italy and Albania.
