ATHENS –
Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni announced a set of strategic actions for upgrading Greece’s image and identity as a travel destination, at a special event held at the Ministry of Tourism on November 21 in Athens.
Kefalogianni said that with the support of the Recovery and Resilience Fund, the ministry is working to maximise the absorption of available resources, but also to achieve maximum efficiency, focusing on a series of projects utilising digital technology tools, such as artificial intelligence.
Specifically, a proclamation of actions with the aim of promoting special forms of tourism using digital tools will be issued. The proclamation concerns digital platforms for promoting mountain tourism, agro-tourism, marine and diving tourism, and wellness tourism.
For example, the digital platform for agrotourism and gastronomy will include an interactive map that pinpoints agritourism and culinary resources throughout the country. Also, the platform for mountain tourism will be a powerful tool for highlighting the mountainous regions of Greece. In addition to destinations, activities in mountainous areas, as well as cultural and historic attractions of each region, will be presented.
The maritime tourism platform will further include an application for the visualisation of the tourism port infrastructure network. The entire marine tourism infrastructure of the country will be presented at the same time.
The platform for diving and underwater tourism, meanwhile, will include functions such as an interactive map of diving and underwater destinations and a digital guide of diving centres. It will also feature an artificial intelligence digital assistant that will provide specialized recommendations based on the interests of platform users.
The proclamation will additionally include the creation of a support app for wellness travellers. An application that will inform travellers on wellness issues and highlight areas and related points of interest. It will use artificial intelligence technology, with voice recognition software, to guide the user quickly and easily.
At the same time, it will also include the creation of a platform with the aim of developing a mechanism to attract and serve digital nomads. Through the platform, the required information will be provided, from their installation, and throughout their stay in Greece.
