Actor Leonidas Gulaptis spoke with Markos Papadatos about his Greek heritage and his new Hallmark movie.
“My father’s side is Macedonian/Greek,” Gulaptis said. “My grandmother and grandfather fled Greece with my father brother and sister just after World War II by boat to Australia.”
“My father was subsequently born in Australia,” he revealed. “Like most immigrants they came with just the clothes on their back and a suitcase. They worked very hard when they got to Australia to live out the Aussie dream.”
“My dad tells a story of his uncle at six years old who started out selling cigarettes who then went on to own multi-million-dollar hotels. They had a great work ethic and a drive that I aspire to,” Gulaptis acknowledged.
Gulaptis is starring as Dominic in the new Hallmark romantic comedy “Sisterhood, Inc.” It was directed by Lesley Demetriades, and he stars opposite Rachael Leigh Cook. The film premiered on Saturday, February 22nd on the Hallmark Channel.
The synopsis of “Sisterhood, Inc.” is: Corporate exec Megan (Rachael Leigh Cook) starts a board of directors to improve her younger sister’s chaotic life and finds romance with Dominic (Leonidas Gulaptis), a psychology professor who uncovers her tough demeanor.
On being a part of this movie, Gulaptis said, “It was such a fun time working on this film. The cast and crew are all incredible, professional and very kind.”
“The pace at which we all worked to have this shot in three weeks was remarkable, and a credit to our director Lesley Demetriades,” he acknowledged.
On working opposite Rachael Leigh Cook, Gulaptis remarked, “Getting to also work alongside Rachael, who has had such a great career in this industry, was great. She is a true professional and a very sweet person.”
Gulaptis shared that he enjoyed playing his character Dominic, especially since he is a Psychology professor and he liked speaking in front of a class.
On playing his character Dominic, he said, “I liked playing a Psychology Professor. Getting up and speaking in front of a ‘class,’ there were moments when I genuinely felt like I was giving a lecture. That was pretty cool.”
