WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) on September 14 joined House Republican Whip Steve Scalise, Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik, and Rep. David Valadao (CA-21) in blasting Democratic leadership for failing to address the real crises Americans are facing today, including inflation, rising energy costs and shortages, along with skyrocketing crime.
“The reality is, under one-party rule at the national, state, and city levels, we’ve seen crime skyrocketing in many of America’s cities,” Malliotakis said. “In New York City, crime is once again up 35% compared to last year, and people in my city don’t feel safe. A number of policies have led to this, including New York’s botched bail law that has repeatedly released violent criminals back onto our streets, including 10 career criminals who’ve racked up nearly 500 arrests themselves. What is our Mayor doing about it? They’re looking to cut the NYPD’s budget once again by three percent after Mayor de Blasio slashed their budget by $1 billion.”
Malliotakis added:”A lot of the policies adopted by New York are being mimicked in Washington, including bail reform and stripping our police of qualified immunity. The combination of federal and state policies enacted under one-party Democrat rule has been a disaster, and it’s leading to my constituents and others across the nation being less safe. Democrats continue to put the drug cartels, career criminals, and bad guys ahead of law-abiding, taxpaying citizens. We must put an end to it, and House Republicans intend to do so come January.”
