Malliotakis Named to Congressional Escort Committee for Joint Session with Greek Prime Minister

Washington, DCCongresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) announced today that she was named to the Congressional Escort Committee for the Tuesday, May 17 Joint Session of Congress with Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

As a member of the Congressional Escort Committee, Malliotakis will participate in a meet and greet with Prime Minister Mitsotakis prior to his address, and then join several House and Senate colleagues in escorting the Prime Minister into the House Chamber.

“As the daughter of a Greek immigrant, it’s a tremendous honor to walk the Prime Minister of my father’s homeland into the House Chamber ahead of his historic speech,” Malliotakis said in a statement.”The United States-Greece relationship remains stronger than ever, however, right now is a pivotal time as our ally faces aggression from neighboring Turkey, and Europe faces ongoing threats from Russia. I look forward to hearing the Prime Minister’s speech tomorrow and hope my colleagues listen carefully as he lays out why the United States should not be selling military jets and equipment to Turkey.”

In Congress, Malliotakis has been outspoken against Turkey’s request to purchase F-16 fighter jets and modernization kits from the U.S. Government to modernize its Air Force. Additionally, Malliotakis’ resolution condemning Turkey for its repeated aggression toward Cyprus was reported out of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs with bipartisan support.
