AI agents “Mikhail” and “Nemesis” work in the Cyber Crime Division, as the new “teachers” at the upgraded Digital Cyber Crime Academy.
The “Digital Academy” harnesses and combines all the latest technologies, including Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality (VR/AR), Artificial Intelligence and interactive educational scenarios, turning the provision of information on digital security into an immersive experience. The Academy’s ambassadors are the digital assistants “Mikhail” and “Nemesis”.
Using Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality, Mikhail and Nemesis can “come to life” in the user’s physical environment, speak and educate citizens on the safe use of the internet and how to deal with digital threats, such as online scams, the sexual exploitation of minors online, and the theft of personal data and online accounts. They also provide advice to minors on how to deal with incidents of cyberbullying.
Through this initiative, the Hellenic Police is moving closer to society and presenting a different, more interactive face, strengthening public trust and familiarity with digital security.
The choice of this form of training reflects the way younger generations interact with technology, using gaming, simulation, Artificial Intelligence and Augmented Reality as learning tools.
This is the new “face” of the Cyber Crime Division of the Hellenic Police, highlighting both the modernisation of police services and personnel and the Hellenic Police’s efforts to respond to the challenges of the digital age and make full use of modern technologies as tools for security, education and direct, meaningful communication with citizens.
The two AI digital assistants contributing to this modern and entirely different educational experience, “Mikhail” and “Nemesis” – or the two AI agents of the Hellenic Police – have distinct roles in the overall learning experience.
More specifically, “Mikhail’s” priority is to provide users – particularly children aged 12 and over – with reliable and authoritative information on the safe use of the internet and how to address digital threats.
“Nemesis”, meanwhile, analyses users’ behaviour and choices during the educational scenarios, contributing to the interactive element and, based on these choices, providing a personalised learning experience.
As officers from the Cyber Crime Division of Hellenic Police Headquarters explain, the AI system operates in a useful and practical way by simulating conversations between citizens and the Division’s specialist personnel as realistically as possible. It is a closed system, with responses based exclusively on approved educational material from the Cyber Crime Division, while users’ messages cannot alter the assistants’ responses.
Notably, the educational experience is not confined to a screen, making it even more appealing, particularly to minors, who are highly familiar with technology.
