Nicholas Steliaros, Archon Mousikodidaskalos, Is Mourned

NEW YORK, NY – Greek News USA

Nicholas Steliaros, born on September 2, 1930, in Thymiana, on the beautiful island of Chios, Greece, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2024, at the age of 94, surrounded by his loving family. His life was a testament to love, faith, and devotion, both to his heritage, church, family, and the people he cherished most.

Nicholas Steliaros carried the spirit of Greece with him throughout his life. His deep love for his homeland, its culture, and the traditions of the Greek Orthodox Church remained central to his identity. A devout member of the Greek Orthodox community, he found peace and joy in his faith and was particularly passionate about Byzantine music, to which he dedicated his life and shared with his community. In December 2013, he was elevated to Archon Mousikodidaskalos of the Great Church of Christ; an honor for which he was incredibly proud.

Family was the cornerstone of his life. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and his greatest joy came from spending time with his loved ones. He is survived by his wife of almost sixty-four years, Eleni (Nitsa); his children, John and Anna, son in law, Kosta, and daughter in law, Glykeria, his cherished grandchildren, Mikey, Angela and her husband Thanos, Elaina and her husband, Stelios, Niko, Evan and Nayia, and his great grandchildren Adoni, Maria, Christo, Leonidas and Thalia, who will forever hold him in their hearts.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 from 5:00-9:00 PM. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at 10:30 AM. Both services will be at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church of Whitestone located at 11-05 150th Street, Whitestone, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church of Whitestone, supporting the needs of the place he called his home away from home for many years.

May his memory be eternal.
