PHILADELPHIA, Pa – The Federation of Hellenic-American Societies of Philadelphia and the Greater Delaware Valley announced that its 2022 Greek Independence Day Parade will take place on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway on March 20. “The City of Philadelphia has given its blessing for the parade, our first in three years since the pandemic hit our communities”, said Dimitrios Rozanitis, the Federation President, sharing the exciting news with the community.
The Parade will honor the Centennial of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America as well as the Centennial of the Order of AHEPA and will also pay a tribute to Greece’s Bicentennial since it will be the first within the Greek American community -along with the Tarpon Springs Parade taking place on the same day- since the pandemic onset in 2020.
The “Eleftheria and Dignitaries Banquet” will be held on March 19 honoring His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America along with AHEPA Supreme President Jimmy Kokotas and the Daughters of Penelope Grand President Kathy Bizoukas as the Centennial Marshals. Georgia Athanasopulos, Honorary Consul General of Panama in Philadelphia, will be the Parade’s Grand Marshal and former AHEPA President, George Horiates, will receive the Eleftheria Award, the Federation’s highest honor.
The festivities will begin with the Greek Flag Raising Ceremony at the Philadelphia City Hall on March 18.
The Federation of Hellenic-American Societies of Philadelphia and the Greater Delaware Valley is the umbrella organization of over 45 Hellenic-American associations, representing thousands of individuals in the Greek community.
