Raptakis Wins Re-Election to RI State Senate

COVENTRY, RI –

After an election campaign focusing on his record of accomplishment for the district several local issues, including a controversial sewer assessment, as well as state-wide issues such as promoting small businesses, fighting crime and stiffening penalties for drunk driving, Rhode Island State Senator Leonidas Raptakis won re-election with a 58-42% majority. Raptakis was confirmed as the winner shortly after the polls closed on Tuesday night.

Raptakis will be sworn in next January to his fifteenth term in the Rhode Island Senate. He previously served two terms in the State House of Representatives.

“I’m grateful to the voters for giving me the chance to once again be their voice in the State House,” said Raptakis. “Every campaign is a chance to once again engage with my neighbors, to listen to their concerns and talk about their priorities for the future. This was a great win and I excited about continuing to get things done for my constituents in the General Assembly.”

Raptakis added, “I also look forward to continuing to be a strong voice on issues of concern to the Greek-American community. That means working with my legislative colleagues to strengthen the relationship between Greece and the United States, while continuing to work closely with Rhode Island’s Congressional delegation on issues ranging from blocking the sale of F-16s to Turkey to extending the waiver renewal period for the arms embargo on the Republic of Cyprus. We have a strong network of Hellenic-America elected officials across the county and I will continue to work with them to make sure we are being heard in Washington, DC and in state capitals across the country.”
