Rutgers University to Host 3rd Annual Nikos Mouyiaris Memorial Lecture, Nov 22

NEW YORK, NY – Greek News USA

The Elytis Chair Fund and the Modern Greek Studies Program at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, are presenting the 3rd Annual Nikos Mouyiaris Memorial Lecture honoring their great benefactor at Rutgers University on Friday, November 22, 2024, at 6:30 PM.

This year’s lecture will commemorate the 50th observance of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus and the continuing occupation of the northern part of the island.

U.S. Rep. John Sarbanes, (D-MD 3rd District), a prominent advocate for justice for Cyprus for many years, will be the main speaker addressing the theme “Cyprus Since 1974: The Struggle Continues”.

The event will be sponsored by PSEKA {International Coordinating Committee “Justice for Cyprus”}, Hellenic American Leadership Council [HALC], the Federation of Cypriot American Organizations [FCAO], Pancyprian Association of America, NJ Cypriot Association Salamis, Lampousa Cypriot American Association, Cyprus Association of New Jersey, AHEPA and the Hellenic Federation of New Jersey.

The Elytis Chair Fund is a non-profit organization that was founded in February of 1989 specifically “for the purpose of promoting, encouraging, and financially supporting Neohellenic Studies… at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.”

Funds that were raised over the years, from the contributions of the Greek-American Community of New Jersey, have provided the financial base that has sustained, and continues to sustain without any interruption, the Modern Greek Studies Program at Rutgers University.
