The Hellenic Initiative has announced the continuation of its support for NOSILIA, a certified nonprofit organization that provides free in‑home palliative care in the center of Athens, regardless of the patient’s illness.
According to a press release, THI’s latest grant extends a partnership between the two organizations that dates back to 2021. This year THI funds NOSILIA’s “Giras Timan” program to deliver free, at-home nursing and palliative care to elderly Athenians who have nowhere else to turn.
Founded in 2001, NOSILIA has spent more than two decades meeting a need that too often goes unaddressed in Greece: comprehensive care for people facing serious illness. Each year the organization supports patients and their family members, combining medical, nursing, psychosocial, physical therapy, and spiritual support into a single, coordinated response delivered whenever possible, in the home rather than a hospital ward. This year’s grant is also helping NOSILIA scale three newer services to meet rising demand: personal hygiene support for bedridden patients, a companionship service called “Syndesis” to ease the isolation so many elderly patients face, and a digital knowledge hub offering caregivers practical guidance from home. The program is expected to serve around 100 elderly patients over the course of a year.
