GRis Festival Kicks Off in New York

NEW YORK, NY –

A special event was held on the 15th of April at the residence of the Consul General of Greece in New York as part of the GRis Festival, a series of events that present the richness of Greek culture in New York.

The GRis Festival is sponsored and supported by many institutions, including the Consulate General of Greece in New York, and offers a rich program of events from Friday, April 12 to Sunday, April 21, 2024. It is an initiative that aims to promote Greek art and culture, as it includes exciting exhibitions, theatrical performances, musical performances, and a special workshop through the collaboration of renowned universities.

Welcoming the distinguished guest artists and the art loving audience, the Consul General of Greece in New York, Ambassador Dinos Konstantinou, emphasized that cultural diplomacy has a dominant position at the Consulate of Greece in New York, and dedicated the opening night to the festival’s contributors, underlining its importance in the promotion and preservation of Greek culture abroad.

Mr. Konstantinou stressed that the festival is not only a venue for the promotion of Greek art and culture, but also a platform for the emergence of new talents and the promotion of intercultural exchange between Greek and American artists.

The event offered visitors a unique opportunity to experience the diversity of Greek culture and enjoy a series of cultural events that showcase the talent and creativity of artists.

At the event- which was accompanied musically by George Varsamakis on piano and Kostas Karitzis on violin- were present distinguished Greek and American businessmen, as well as personalities of educational and artistic institutions. Among others, Professor Andreas Michalopoulos of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Professor Maria Loizidou of the National Technical University of Athens, President of EEC Mr. Nikolaos Themelis, EEC Director and Professor Athanasios Bourtsalas of Columbia University, Director & Head of School PI Art Center Dominic Terlizzi, Vice Mayor of Public Relations of the Municipality of Corfu Spyridoula Kokkali, and the President of the Municipal Council of Northern  Corfu, Panagiotis Papadatos.
