EU supports Cypriot Civil Society with over €2 million in New Grants

The European Commission has awarded 15 new grants amounting over EUR 2 million to support the actions of civil society organizations (CSOs) throughout Cyprus.

“The ninth Cypriot civil society in action grant scheme launched in 2024 aimed to support civil society in enhancing trust, dialogue, and cooperation and in promoting European Union values and standards through actions that contribute to promoting the reunification of Cyprus”, the Commission noted in a press release on June 26.  

“Following the evaluation of the 69 the applications received, in June 2025 the European Commission has awarded 15 grants amounting over EUR 2 million under the ninth Cypriot Civil Society in Action grant scheme. The projects have as beneficiaries 28 Cypriot CSOs and will be implemented over the next 15 to 30 months. Six projects are bi-communal and will be implemented in partnership by Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot CSOs”, the press release adds.

The main areas covered by the projects include: environmental protection and sustainable development; reconciliation, confidence building and promoting participation of civil society in the settlement process; women empowerment and support for the victims of gender-based violence; youth advocacy; health rights; animal rights; enabling environment for the CSOs.

Since 2007, around EUR 23 million has been allocated for the CSOs grants under the EU Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community.
