Greece’s strong momentum in the strategically important North American market was reaffirmed this year at the prestigious Leisure Lifestyle Awards 2026 of the U.S. travel publication Global Traveler.

For the fifth straight year, Greece topped the international rankings for “Best Historical Attractions” (International), and Santorini once again claimed the title of “Best Island in Europe,” marking its thirteenth consecutive win.

This double distinction further strengthens Greece’s position as a leading global destination, showcasing the high quality of its tourism offerings, its unique historical and cultural wealth, and the enduring appeal and international recognition of the Greek tourism product, the Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO) states in an announcement on April 22.

These awards are granted following a vote by Global Traveler readers, which gives them particular significance, as they directly reflect the experiences and evaluations of the international traveling public. Voting for this year’s awards took place from August 1, 2025, to January 31, 2026, with thousands of participants expressing their preferences across a wide range of leisure, luxury, and lifestyle travel categories.

The 14th Leisure Lifestyle Awards ceremony was held on Monday, April 20, 2026, in Miami, in the presence of prominent representatives of the international tourism industry. Representing Greece was the GNTO North America Office Director, Konstantinos Harokopos.
