Tannousis Blasts Democrats For Blocking Battery Storage Safety Bill

NEW YORK, NY –

“It is deeply disappointing that Albany Democrats chose to block legislation (A.6996) that would protect Staten Island neighborhoods from the unchecked expansion of large-scale battery energy storage facilities”, said Assemblyman Michael Tannousis (R,C-Staten Island/ Brooklyn) condemning Democrats for choosing to “bury the legislation”.

“Communities across Staten Island have made their concerns loud and clear. Residents do not want potentially dangerous facilities placed near homes, schools, playgrounds and small businesses without stronger safeguards and meaningful local input”, he noted.

He continued: “This bill was about putting public safety first and ensuring communities are not forced to shoulder the risks of experimental technology without proper oversight. Instead of listening to the people we represent, Democrats in committee chose to bury the legislation and ignore legitimate environmental and safety concerns raised by residents, firefighters and first responders alike”.

“I will continue fighting to ensure Staten Island families have a voice in these decisions and that public safety is never sacrificed for political convenience”, Tannousis concluded.
