A reception was hosted on March 10 by Greece’s Ambassador to the UN, Evangelos Sekeris, at the Permanent Representative’s Residence, in honor of Sofia Zacharaki, Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, who is leading the Greek Delegation to the 69th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), taking place at the UN headquarters from March 10 to 21.
In welcoming the attendees, Ambassador Sekeris pointed out that the promotion of women’s rights, including political, economic, educational and social rights, is a central priority for Greece. At the same time, he stressed, Greece advances women’s rights also as an elected member of the Security Council for the years 2025-2026, as the Agenda for Women, Peace and Security is one of our country’s priorities.

On her part, Sofia Zacharaki expressed her satisfaction for the role that Greece plays in advancing women’s rights in the context of the United Nations, both within the Commission on the Status of Women and the Security Council.
The reception was attended by high-ranking UN officials, Permanent Representatives, representatives of UN member states and members of the ad hoc Subcommittee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, including members of the Hellenic Parliament.

Among the attendees were the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Theodoros Roussopoulos, and the Commissioner for Gender Equality of the Republic of Cyprus, Josie Christodoulou.
As part of the event, the sculpture “Kore” by the renowned artist George Petrides was presented. The artist combined the history and culture of Greece with a personal narrative, as the work represents his own daughter at the age of 12. As he noted, the sculpture sends a message of optimism and hope for the future, despite all difficulties.
