In a momentous occasion marking the 510th Anniversary of the establishment of the Diocese and Feast of Santa Maria La Antigua, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America has received a distinguished invitation from His Eminence Archbishop Ulloa Mendieta of Panama. The five-day celebration is scheduled to take place from Thursday, September 7th to Monday, September 11th, 2023.
During this visit, Archbishop Elpidophoros is set to engage in a series of significant events and meetings that underscore the rich cultural and religious exchange between the two nations.
One of the key highlights is Archbishop Elpidophoros’ visit to the St. John Paul II Center and the Hogar Luisa, where he will interact with the local community and extend his blessings. Furthermore, he will be warmly welcomed by the Interfaith Community of Panama.
In a diplomatic encounter of great significance, His Eminence will meet with the President of the Republic of Panama, Laurentino Cortizo, at the historic Palacio de Las Garzas. Subsequently, he will also hold discussions with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Janaina Tewaney, at the Palacio Bolivar, cementing the strong diaspora ties that exist between Greece and Panama.
Thursday’s agenda includes a Theological Forum at the Catholic University of Santa Maria La Antigua, where Archbishop Elpidophoros will address topics relating to Religious Freedom and the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Later that evening, he will be the guest of honor at a dinner hosted by the Honorary Consul of the Hellenic Republic in Panama, Mr. Spiro Skliros-Athanasopulos, fostering cultural and diplomatic relations.
On Friday, His Eminence will embark on a tour of the iconic Panama Canal, specifically the Miraflores Locks, and visits the City of Knowledge Foundation, showcasing Panama’s technological and educational advancements.
Saturday is marked by the Archbishop’s attendance at the Holy Mass of Santa Maria La Santigua, a revered event commemorating the Patroness of Panama. It is a moment of profound spirituality and cultural celebration.
Sunday will witness His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros officiating the Divine Liturgy at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary. Following the service, he will receive a warm welcome from the Greek Orthodox Community, fostering the bonds of faith and heritage.
On the concluding day of his visit, Monday, His Eminence will visit the Atenea Institute, a local Greek School, where he will offer a Memorial service honoring its founder. Later in the day, he will extend his blessings to the Panama Clinic, underlining the importance of healthcare and welfare.
The 510th Anniversary of the Diocese and Feast of Santa Maria La Antigua promises to be a momentous occasion for cultural, religious, and diplomatic exchange, as Archbishop Elpidophoros reinforces the bonds of friendship and faith during his visit.
