Archdiocese Mourns the Passing of Long-Time Receptionist

NEW YORK, NY – It is with every hope in the Lord’s Resurrection that the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America has shared the sorrowful news of the passing of Eva Kafetzis, long-time receptionist of the Archdiocesan headquarters in NYC.  

Evdoksiya Kafetzis, age 76, of Queens, NY, passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2023.

Born on October 14, 1946, in Constantinople, Eva was the beloved wife of Emmanuel, loving mother of Peter Kafetzis, Effie (Nick) Livaditis and Maria (Minas) Styponias and cherished yiayia of Eva, Despina and Emmanuella.

His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros remarked: “For almost 25 years, visitors to our Archdiocesan headquarters were welcomed by our dear Eva. Her faith, her love, and her dedication to the Church and our Archdiocese were evident by her joyful greeting to all who entered our offices”.

“What a beautiful person she was and no doubt will be greatly missed by her family and friends but also, by those of us who worked with her at the Archdiocese. May the Good Lord grant rest to her soul in the land of the righteous and give her beloved family solace and strength during this time of separation. May her memory be eternal! “, noted Bishop Andonios of Phasiane, who has served as a Chancellor of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America for a long time.

The family of Evdoksiya will be receiving visitors on Thursday, May 25, 2023 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, 192-15 Northern Boulevard, Flushing, NY 11358.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 26, 2023 at 9:30 am at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, 11-05 150th Street, Whitestone, NY 11357. The interment to follow at Flushing Cemetery, 163-06 46th Avenue, Flushing, NY 11358.
