Budget: Primary surplus of 4.5 billion euros in Q1

Greece’s primary surplus stood at 4.498 billion euros in the first quarter of 2025, compared to a target of 616 million euros and a primary surplus of 2.987 billion euros during the same period in 2024, according to the state budget execution data, on a modified cash basis. 

At the same time, there is a surplus in the state budget balance amounting to 1.610 billion, compared to a targeted deficit of 2.364 billion euros for the same period of 2025, as included in the introductory report of the 2025 Budget, and a deficit of 44 million euros for the same period in 2024. 

State budget expenditures for the period January–March 2025 amounted to 16.176 billion euros, showing a decrease of 2.262 billion compared to the target of 18.438 billion euros.
