The Greek Orthodox Metropolis of New Jersey hosted the Second Annual Maryland & Northern Virginia Honoree Grand Banquet at Martin’s Valley Mansion in Hunt Valley, Maryland, on the evening of November 10. The event brought together more than 400 clergy and parishioners from across the region to celebrate the dedication and service of their fellow faithful.

Nearly 100 faithful from the 13 parishes of Maryland and Northern Virginia were honored by His Eminence Metropolitan Apostolos of New Jersey for their exemplary commitment and self-sacrifice to their parishes. Honorees were recognized in eight categories: Senior Steward, Philoptochos, Parish Council, Community, Religious Educator, Church Musician, Youth Advisors, and GOYAns. Each received a wooden plaque inscribed with their name and adorned with an icon of St. Iakovos of Evia, the new patron saint of the Metropolis of New Jersey.
The evening was graced by the presence of His Eminence Metropolitan Apostolos of New Jersey. Also present were Metropolitan Council Vice President James Polos and Metropolis Philoptochos President Eleni Constantinides, while George Comninos served as master of ceremonies.

In his address, His Eminence congratulated the honorees and encouraged all present to embrace their roles as witnesses of faith. He emphasized that the time and talents offered to parish life are living testimonies of the Orthodox Christian faith—works that inspire those outside the Church and, equally importantly, guide the younger generation. “By observing the example set by today’s leaders,” he noted, “our youth are encouraged to follow in their footsteps and continue the mission of faith.”
His Eminence concluded by expressing gratitude to Fr. Lou Noplos and Fr. George Mastakas for their leadership in organizing the banquet and ensuring its success for a second consecutive year.
