Chrysochoidis meets US officials to strengthen Greece–US security cooperation

Greek Minister of Citizen Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis, and the Chief of the Hellenic Police, Lieutenant General Dimitrios Mallios, met with officials from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on May 6.

As announced by the Ministry, the two sides reaffirmed the exceptional cooperation that has been developed in critical security sectors, which has yielded significant results in preventing and combating serious and organised crime, drug trafficking, and illegal migration.

Particular emphasis was placed during the meeting on the exchange of operational information aiming to strengthen internal and cross-border security, address modern and complex threats, enhance interoperability, and leverage advanced technological tools and practices.

The Ministry also noted the positive assessment of the Visa Waiver Programme (VWP), a key pillar in facilitating travel by Greek citizens to the United States and enhancing travel security through modern control mechanisms and information sharing.

The Ministry, also in an announcement, stressed that Greek-American cooperation is a strategic factor for stability and security, both at the national and international levels, adding that it will be strengthened with a view to protecting citizens and addressing contemporary challenges.
