Congressional Candidate Ariel Rivera-Diaz Commemorates OXI Day

NEW YORK, NY –

Republican Congressional candidate Ariel Rivera-Diaz (NY-14) issued a statement about the 85th Anniversary of “OXI Day” October 28, 1940, a national Holiday in Greece, and a day, as he noted, that is celebrated in the United States and countries around the world for the heroic and unprecedented resistance of the Greek people against Fascism and the Axis powers in World War II.

“On this day 85 years ago, a country that was poor in finance, but rich in history, weak in modern military machines, but formidable in honor and courage, did the “unthinkable” and said OXI (no) to the Fascist and Axis armies who were determined to walk through Greece without resistance, or crush everything in their way in a few hours, little did these regimes know they were starting a long path towards their own demise,” said Rivera-Diaz.

“The spectacular victories against the Fascist armies, and brutal months long resistance against the Axis powers, inspired the world to resist and fight back, it showed that Hitler and his armies could be defeated”, added Rivera-Diaz.

“Freedom, liberty, and justice are worth fighting for no matter how powerful the tyrants, and the heroic resistance of the Greek people continues to serve as inspiration to people all over the world fighting for their freedom against overwhelming odds”, he noted.

“I think that the U.S. House of Representatives should strongly consider Congressman Bilirakis proposal to designate October 28th as “OXI” Day”, added Rivera-Diaz.
