The Archdiocesan Cathedral Philoptochos invites everyone to join them as they kick-off the holiday season with the Society’s 67th Chrysanthemum Ball, honoring Dr. George D. Yancopoulos, a renowned biotech leader and President and CSO of Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, on Friday, November 12 at the Metropolitan Club in New York.
The Chrysanthemum Ball is the major fundraiser for our Philoptochos helping us support many philanthropic programs including local, national, and international charities, said Joanne Adams who will co-chair the event along with Ourania Soumas, the chapter’s 1st V.P. Stephanie Pantelides is the Chapter’s President.
Among the charities are the Children’s Medical Fund, the Ronald McDonald House of NYC, the Cathedral Philoptochos Society Scholarship Fund, St. Basil’s Academy, St. Michael’s Greek Orthodox Home for the Aged, The Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter “Feed the Homeless” program, individuals and families in crisis in the USA and Greece, and various children’s organizations in Greece.
This year, a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Archdiocesan Cathedral “Building Our Future” capital campaign.
Aside from its charities, the Cathedral Philoptochos as Mrs. Adams added, focuses special attention every year on the youth who are the future of our Greek Orthodox Church. Young adults are invited to join the festivities (at a reduced ticket price) and enjoy music, dancing, and mingling to meet new friends in an exquisite setting. This event promotes the importance of the Greek Orthodox Church and the role it plays in keeping everyone connected to our heritage and culture while making a difference in our society.
The first Philoptochos Society at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity was officially established in 1902.
