ATHENS – GNUSA
Three ERMIS nanosatellites built in Greece by the Department of Aerospace Science of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) are scheduled for launch into space, into a 500‑km orbit.
ERMIS‑1, ERMIS‑2, and ERMIS‑3 will be launched on March 30 at 13:20 by SpaceX aboard the Falcon‑9 rocket. The launch will be broadcast live at: https://www.spacex.com/launches/transporter-16
According to an announcement by NKUA, the ERMIS program (ERMIS Hellenic Cubesat Demonstration Mission) aims to certify new, innovative space technologies and applications, including 5G communications for the Internet of Things (IoT), laser‑based satellite telecommunications, and Earth observation using a hyperspectral camera.
The ERMIS program constitutes the first phase of the National Micro‑Satellite Program, with a total budget of €200 million, funded by the European Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF – EU Next Generation EU).
The ERMIS mission itself, with a budget of approximately €4.9 million, is coordinated by the newly established Department of Aerospace Science & Technology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Project partners include OQ Hellas, the University of Patras, the University of the Aegean, and the National Observatory of Athens.
The space mission is overseen by the European Space Agency (ESA) with the support of the Greek Ministry of Digital Governance.
