HCHC to Host Memorial Tribute Honoring Archbishop Iakovos

The Huffington Ecumenical Institute at Hellenic College Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology (HCHC) will host a special tribute event on October 23 [St. Iakovos Day] to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the passing of Archbishop Iakovos.

The event, set to take place at the Maliotis Cultural Center on the HCHC campus, will celebrate the life and legacy of Archbishop Iakovos, who led the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of North and South America from 1959 to 1996.

The daylong program will feature a premiere screening of the documentary Iakovos—In His Own Words, as well as, panel discussions with HCHC faculty and former colleagues, exploring the Archbishop’s cultural, educational, socio-political, and ecumenical contributions. A memorial service will be held at his gravesite.

Speakers will include His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros, Metropolitan Gerasimos of San Francisco, Paulette Poulos, Executive Director of L-100 and longtime assistant to the late Archbishop, along with other prominent voices from the Orthodox community.

“It will be a day of gratitude and renewed commitment to the values championed by Archbishop Iakovos”, said Fr. John Chryssavgis, Executive Director of the Huffington Ecumenical Institute.

The event is open to the public and will be livestreamed. A private dinner reception will follow the memorial service.
