NEW YORK, NY –
The Hellenic Film Society (HFS) in association with the Museum of the Moving Image (MoMI) will present a special screening of Kapodistrias (The Governor) on Friday, June 5, 7 pm, at MoMI (37-01 35th Avenue, in Astoria).
Directed by Yannis Smaragdis, the epic film chronicles the life story of the noted European statesman and visionary leader, Ioannis Kapodistrias, Greece’s first Governor after its liberation from the Ottomans, whose life of service, sacrifice, and devotion to freedom becomes a timeless symbol of moral strength and national duty.
The film will be shown in Greek with English subtitles. “This is the film that everyone has been asking to see”, said HFS President Maria Miles. “It broke box office records in Greece and had successful one-night screenings throughout the US last April. We are happy that the film’s distributor is allowing us to bring it back to New York, even for only one screening, for those who want to see it again or enjoy it for the first time”.
Demand for tickets is expected to be high, and viewers are urged to make their purchases in advance by visiting www.hellenicfilmsociety.org
