HFS to Present “It’s Greek To Me” Short Film Program, May 17

NEW YORK, NY –

Seven Greek American filmmakers will have the opportunity to show their work when the Hellenic Film Society (HFS) presents its second annual It’s Greek to Me short film program at the Museum of the Moving Image (MoMI) on Sunday, May 17th, at 3 pm. The program marks a slight departure for HFS, which shows films mostly made in Greece by Greek filmmakers.

“The Greek American film community has embraced our effort to highlight local talent, and we are happy to once again acknowledge the impressive work of this group of artists and offer them an opportunity to have their films screened at MoMI”, said HFS president Mary Miles.

A specially appointed independent panel of judges has selected seven films from the scores of submissions. The directors and their films are: Konstantinos Karamaghiolis, Abel; Freddy Barouh, ACT!; Paul Cristo, Citizen B.C.E.: The Alphabet; Julia Xanthos Liddy, Film Your Family; Vassiliki Omirly, Marmelada; Alexander Pagonis, As She Saw; and Caroline Vokas, Nereida.

MoMI is located at 37-01 35th Avenue, Astoria. For detailed information about the shorts and tickets, visit: www.hellenicfilmsociety.org

The Hellenic Film Society is a 501c(3) organization dedicated to promoting Greek cinema in the U.S.A. In addition to the Always On Sunday series of screenings at MoMI, it presents the New York Greek Film Expo annually in October, a Greek film festival for all New Yorkers.

HFS also partners with other prominent festivals, including the Atlanta Greek Film Expo, the Chicago Greek Film Expo, and the South Florida Greek Film Festival.

The Kallinikeion Foundation and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) are the principal funders of HFS. Additional support is provided by New York State Council on the Arts, New York City Council, New York City Tourism Organization, Microsoft, Greek National Tourist Organization, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, and Antenna Satellite TV.
