Travellers from Australia and the USA show a greater willingness to travel to Greek destinations in the next 12 months compared to other distant markets for Greece, such as China and India, which mainly prefer countries closer to them.
Greece ranks higher in Australian travelers’ preferences and third compared to other competitive Mediterranean destinations (Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, Croatia, Turkiye).
The Institute of the Greek Tourism Confederation (INSETE), in its latest study on “Brand Greece: How attractive is Greece as a tourist destination – Comparison with competing Mediterranean destinations” examined the most distant markets focusing on 4 key countries for inbound tourism, namely the USA, China, India and Australia.
By market, Greece ranked 10th for overseas travel in the next 12 months in the Australian market, 13th in the US market, 32nd in the Chinese market and 36th in the Indian market. Compared to 2023, Greece fell 7 places in the Chinese market and 11 places in the Indian market, but rose one place in the US market.
Compared to competitive countries (Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, Croatia, Turkey) in 2024:
For the US market, Italy is in 4th place, France is in 7th place, Spain is in 9th place and Greece is in 13th place.
For the Chinese market, Italy is in 12th place, France is in 9th place, Spain is in 23rd place and Greece is in 32nd place.
For the Indian market, Italy is in 13th place, France is in 12th place, Spain is in 22nd place, Turkey is in 32nd place and Greece is in 36th place.
For the Australian market, Italy is in 4th place, France is in 9th place, Greece is in 10th place and Spain is in 13th place.
