“Jews of Greece” documentary to be broadcasted by Nanuet Public Library

On the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the documentary “Jews of Greece” of “Modern Odyssey” program with Dr. Despina Afentouli that was produced in collaboration with BronxNet will be screened at the Nanuet Public Library (address: 149 Church Street Nanuet, NY 10954) on Thursday, January 25, at 7:00 p.m.

Rare aspects of historical facts of Modern History will be uncovered through this special tribute that Dr. Despina Afentouli presents via research findings and the narrative of Larry Russo, the documentary director of “Trezoros: The Lost Jews of Kastoria”, for one of the oldest Jewish communities in History, the Jews of Greece. The documentary focuses on the Holocaust and the bright examples of compassion and self-sacrifice of those who risked their lives to protect their fellows who were in danger.

“The perseverance of the collective memory is crucial, so as to learn from the past, to focus on what unites us and to inherit a better future for the next generations. Knowing the historical past matters to all of us”, Dr. Despina Afentouli emphasized.

“Stories like this on Modern Odyssey on BronxNet help us to never forget that our shared stories of struggles and triumphs contribute to greater understanding and unity,” BronxNet Executive Director Michael Max Knobbe highlighted.

Dr. Despina Afentouli, a journalist, sociologist and currently a postdoc researcher, is the host and producer of the award-winning tv program “Modern Odyssey”. In this program, Dr. Despina Afentouli features interviews with thought leaders, artists, and prime movers on issues that aim to inspire, as “Odysseus’ epic journey to Ithaca – a symbol of timeless values, connects with contemporary life and human stories worth telling” (“Modern Odyssey” program’s identity).
