PISCATAWAY, NJ –
His Eminence Metropolitan Apostolos of New Jersey presided over the Orthros and the Divine Liturgy of Christmas at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Piscataway, NJ, on December 25. The Very Rev. Archimandrite Fr. Nektarios Cottros, proistamenos of the parish, welcomed His Eminence together with members of the Parish Council. Also serving was Rev. Dn. Emmanuel Tsarnas, who celebrated his name day.
In his Archpastoral sermon for the Nativity, Metropolitan Apostolos commended the faithful for gathering in church on Christmas morning. He reminded them that “the greatest gift we can receive on Christmas is Christ from the Chalice.” He emphasized that Christ became incarnate for the salvation of humanity, and that believers participate in this divine plan when they receive the forgiveness of sins through Holy Communion — the same Body and Blood that came into the world on the first Christmas night.
Following the Divine Liturgy and the singing of the traditional kalanta led by His Eminence, the community hosted a festive breakfast in honor of the hierarchical visit.
