His Eminence Metropolitan Apostolos of New Jersey, visited the first session of Camp Good Shepherd in Maryland to bless the beginning of the camping season on the evening of Sunday, June 16th.
The one hundred faithful campers, staff and clergy cheerfully greeted His Eminence upon his arrival. After proceeding to the camp chapel, Metropolitan Apostolos led the campers in an Agiasmos or Blessing of the Waters service.
His Eminence spoke with the campers about the importance of knowing their faith in order to be witnesses of Orthodoxy in the world and he challenged them to use their time at camp to deepen their faith and build their relationships with one another, becoming -in the words of one camper- “one big family”.
Following the Blessing of the Waters, His Eminence joined the campers for a kick-off barbecue, a memorable end for the first night of camp.
