The World Conference of Overseas Cypriots calls upon the United Kingdom, European Union, and the United States to intensify their diplomatic engagement towards the immediate commencement of substantive and good faith negotiations and to exert their influence on Turkey to abandon its partitionist policies and to contribute decisively to the settlement of the Cyprus question.

Overseas Cypriots convened in Nicosia on 26–29 August 2025, and discussed, inter alia, the Cyprus question and reaffirmed the steadfast commitment of the Cypriot Diaspora and also Hellenism to the struggle of the Cypriot people for freedom and justice.

In a resolution on the Cyprus issue, the Diaspora welcomes the appointment of a Special Envoy of the European Union on the Cyprus question and expresses gratitude for the representations of the highest institutional representatives of the European Union in support of a solution that is consistent with EU norms and acquis.

Moreover, representatives of POMAK, PSEKA and NEPOMAK say they condemn the 51-year-long continuing occupation of approximately 37% of the territory of the Republic of Cyprus and call upon Turkey to withdraw immediately all occupying forces.

Also, they call upon Turkey to comply fully with the binding judgments of the European Court of Human Rights and to respect the property and human rights of displaced persons.

The World Conference urges Turkey to cooperate fully in ascertaining the fate of all remaining missing persons and to provide full information to the families of the missing.

Moreover, Overseas Cypriots stress that a viable, functional, and democratic settlement of the Cyprus question, within the framework of the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions will benefit all Cypriots, and will contribute to peace and long-term stability in the Eastern Mediterranean and will be consistent with the geostrategic interests of the European Union and its strategic partners.

They also affirm that the settlement of the Cyprus question, through negotiations based on the agreed UN framework, must be fully aligned with the European acquis and consistent with the principles and values of the European Union.
