PSEKA Responds to Minister Christos Stylianides’ statement

NEA YORK, NY –

International Coordinating Committee Justice for Cyprus – PSEKA  responded to comments made by Greece’s Minister of Shipping, Christos Stylianides, who is of Cypriot origin, regarding the status of Cyprus.

Speaking at the Hellenic Parliament, Stylianides caused controversy when he said, “half of Cyprus is already Turkish”.

“The frivolous statement of Greek Minister Stylianides that “half of Cyprus is Turkish,” can only give credibility to Mr. Erdogan and Turkey who continues to maintain 40,000 troops on the Island and keeps 200,000 people from returning to their ancestral homes”, noted Philip Christopher, president of PSEKA.

The full PSEKA’s statement reads as follows:

“During the past 50 years of the illegal occupation of 37% of the Republic of Cyprus, a member of the European Union, we have exerted all efforts to keep the basis of the problem as one of illegal invasion and continued occupation by Turkish Troops.

Even though Turkey has not respected UN Resolutions, we continue to fight for a free, united Cyprus where all citizens, Greek, Turkish, Armenians, Maronites and others, can live in peace and harmony with human rights under one united Federal Republic.

The frivolous statement of Greek Minister Stylianides that “half of Cyprus is Turkish,” can only give credibility to Mr. Erdogan and Turkey who continues to maintain 40,000 troops on the Island and keeps 200,000 people from returning to their ancestral homes.

We are not ready to compromise and we will never forget the illegal brutal invasion of 1974 and will never accept the status quo of the occupation!

The work goes on, The hope endures, and The dream of a free united Cyprus Will never die”, notes Philip Christopher.
